Increasing intelligence?

I would really like to increase my knowledge of multiple subjects. I'm 20 years old (a sophmore in college) and feel that I'm not up to par with my fellow peers. I spend so much time on school and still feel it doesn't pay off. I dont know what's wrong :(. Others seem to do well with seemingly effortless attempts and I can't.
