Why do a lot of Straight People think that phobia means "a Fear of Gays" as in the individual person?

i dont think that way. id wouldnt mind havin some gay friends, but a lot of them think all straight guys are afraid of them (im not) and dont talk to straight guys. so it works both ways with the fear. but as far as "gay cooties" goes, that is jus pure stupidity and ignorance.
